trade

the lament of humanity
could have, should have
seems like wallowing in selfish pity
indeed it is
but also a deeper commentary
on the human condition
silent understanding, wasted potential
time equated with paper money
translates to a redundant, pointless existence
life, time, a child's first steps
traded for paper
traded again for things that are in essence free
squashing the spirit and soul of being
existentially frustrated, medicated legions
internalizing as failure difficulty living in chains
Houston, we have a problem
your maladjustment to injustice and perversion of the sytem
in which we're all expected to be loyal
good corporate citizens
is not the problem
and even if we are fundamentally fine and comfortable
our eyes see through the veneer
the thoughts might not consciously pierce our minds
but we know, we feel the cry
by the end of these lines
quite a few children needlessly died
and civilians, and soldiers in wars
and everyday people, from treatable disease
it's hard to smile
when your heart's paralyzed
fictitious divisions, separation, nations, faiths, economic systems
what you want is your brother
in this, Gods have no hand
it's a conflict between man and his nature
a crack in the matrix constructed reality
self-interest, inherent greed
are not more efficient, but a more destructive means
of achieving your needs
something to eat, clean water, and a warm place to sleep
the comfort of knowing you won't be killed as you dream
even the cat and dog exist together in peace
when they don't have to fight
for the same piece of meat
